Perth - International Transit Lounge

Yoga, Outdoor BBQs and Wine

For all of you frequent Australia business travelers out there. Qanta’s has a Lounge in Perth that is way beyond expectations. The lounge is open to people transiting in Perth on QF9 from Melbourne to London and QF10 from London to Melbourne, as well as passengers joining the flight there, if you’re a Gold or above frequent flyer or Qantas lounge member.

If passenger comfort is the goal of any airline lounge, Qantas, as they would say in Oz, is smashing it. The Australian carrier, whose Perth to London route is currently the world’s longest, focused its lounge, which opened Apriil 2018 in Perth International, on making that 17-hour-and-15-minute flight as relaxing as possible. Upper class passengers and OneWorld status members have access to the usual bells and whistles of domestic Qantas lounges: meals from superstar chef Neil Perry; an open bar pouring top Aussie labels, including chardonnays from the nearby Margaret River. But wellness is where this lounge really earns its stripes.

If passenger comfort is the goal of any airline lounge, Qantas, as they would say in Oz, is smashing it. The Australian carrier, whose Perth to London route is currently the world’s longest, focused its newest lounge, which opened last month in Perth International, on making that 17-hour-and-15-minute flight as relaxing as possible.

In an effort to curb long-haul flight delirium, Qantas teamed up with researchers from the University of Sydney to zero in on sleep methods and diet, adding features like light therapy in the bathrooms, where 15-minute bursts of bright lights help passengers adjust their body clocks. The signature amenity here is without a doubt the wellbeing studio, offering stretching and breathing classes every fifteen minutes before and after flights. Classes are run by teachers from Perth’s premier spa and yoga studio, Bodhi Wellness. It marks the first time that yoga has been offered inside an airport lounge (don’t worry about sweating pre-flight; the lounge also has 15 showers and high-end Aurora spa products to use before you board).

The terminal also has a massive outdoor terrace that gets excellent day-time sun. It also has a range of BBQs grilling gourmet meats and sausages from top Perth butcher Princi Smallgood, so you can leave Oz with a classic Aussie barbie.

I think I want to book a ticket just to go to the lounge. Have you been yet?
