Delta One: The New All-Suite Business Class

The business traveler is a harried breed of person, at the whim of his work, the weather, traffic jams and confusing airport layouts all at once. Airlines value these frequent fliers for their loyalty, something that is evidenced by the rapid evolution of the business class cabin. The latest iteration, by American-based Delta on its fleet of A350s, is perhaps the boldest and also the most luxurious of all, and bound to pique the interest of many a frequent business traveler.

Called the Delta One, each suite has a full-height sliding door to allow the traveler to isolate him or herself from the activity around and catch up on work or sleep. The memory foam seats transform into lie-flat beds to rival home comfort. The ability to customize the ambient lighting in your slice of personal space adds to that comfort.

Stepping into any of the 32 suites in the cabin, you will be greeted by premium finishing and trim. Your personal alcove includes a mini work desk and table to one side as well as dedicated storage space for your laptop and shoes thoughtfully and non-intrusively designed into the suite fittings.

Gone are the days of squinting at a tiny screen on the back of the seat in front of yours. Delta recently revamped its in-flight entertainment systems, and with an 18-inch screen (larger than any other U.S. carrier) to view it on, you will always have a great view. Meanwhile, the over-ear headphones will help block out distractions from the rest of the world. Each suite is also equipped with universal power outlets and high-power USB ports so your devices won’t run out of juice even if you forgot your travel adapter.

Initially, the idea of dedicated personal suites on an aircraft may seem like a gimmick in a game of one-upmanship by rival airlines. However, for anyone who has felt uncomfortable at a fellow traveler’s glance at their laptop screen, or has struggled with a stack of printouts on a tiny fold-away table, the Delta One has revolutionized business travel. Personal and corporate privacy are yours, and the experience is only elevated by the commitment to passenger comfort and needs Delta has anticipated and met.

The Delta One business class cabin will be available on Delta’s fleet of 25 Airbus A350-900 wide body aircraft which fly between the U.S. and Asia Pacific from the second half of 2017. The program will then be expanded to Delta’s fleet of 18 Boeing 777s from 2018.

Delta One suite features:

  • A full-height door at every suite
  • Sliding privacy dividers between center suites
  • In-suite, customizable ambient lighting
  • Dedicated stowage compartments for shoes, headphones and laptops
  • Contemporary design featuring premium trim and finishes
  • Memory foam-enhanced comfort cushion
  • An 18-inch, high resolution in-flight entertainment monitor, the largest among U.S. carriers
  • A universal power outlet and high-powered USB port at every seat
