Laptop & Liquids in Carry-Ons?

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) began rolling out new 3D security screaning systems this past summer, allowing laptops to stay in carry-on bags and in the future also allowing the 3-1-1 liquids to remain in the carry-on bags.

This technology is currently available at 17 locations in the USA.

Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL)
Baltimore-Washington International Airport (BWI)
Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD)
Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG)
Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW)
Houston Hobby Airport (HOU)
Indianapolis International Airport (IND)
John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK)
Logan International Airport (BOS)
Los Angeles International Airport (LAX)
Miami International Airport (MIA)
Oakland International Airport (OAK)
Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX)
Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA)
St. Louis Lambert International Airport (STL)
Tampa International Airport (TPA)
Washington-Dulles International Airport (IAD)

This 3D technology allows the TSA officer to rotate the image digitally in order to examine a possible suspicious item without having to unpack the bag, the current technology in many airports is only a 2 dimensional X-ray.

The biggest benefit for us is that soon you will no longer have to remove your laptop or your liquids from your carry-on at any airport, allowing a smoother, better, and faster airport experience for everyone.

300 systems are scheduled to be deployed between summer 2019 and end of the year 2020. It is not currently known which airports are scheduled before others.
