United Airlines Announces 12 New and Expanded International Routes

Starting March 28, 2020, United Airlines will begin nonstop service to Tokyo’s Haneda International Airport (HND) from Chicago, Los Angeles, New York/Newark and Washington, D.C. United has been flying to Tokyo for more than 40 years, and is now expanding their network there.

United currently offers nonstop service to Haneda from San Francisco, and also offers daily service to Tokyo’s Narita International Airport (NRT) from Denver, Guam, Honolulu, Houston, Los Angeles, New York/Newark and San Francisco. However, with the new service to Haneda, United will no longer offer flights to Narita from Chicago and Washington, D.C.

Tokyo’s Haneda International Airport is about a 15-minute drive to the city center, compared to Narita International Airport, which is just less than an hour away. So why the move to Haneda?

“Our new service to Haneda gives our customers more choice and connections to more than 65 destinations throughout Asia. With service beginning next spring, we look forward to providing convenient service for the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, and beyond,” said Patrick Quayle, United’s vice president of International Network.

In addition to their expansion to Tokyo, United Airlines revealed an updated international schedule from its hubs in Chicago, Denver, New York/Newark and San Francisco.

Travelers flying United will be able to choose from new services to Palermo, Italy; Nice, France; and Curaçao. The airline also expanded routes to numerous European destinations including Amsterdam; London; Frankfurt, Germany; and Zurich, Switzerland and will also include summer service to Barcelona, Spain; Porto, Portugal; Athens, Greece; and Naples, Italy.

“United’s global network is a tremendous source of pride for our employees and loyal customers,” said United’s International Network Vice President, Patrick Quayle. “We’re always looking for ways to grow and expand our network to connect our customers to more destinations around the world.”

New service to Curaçao comes just in time for travelers to escape the upcoming winter weather and flights will begin departing on Dec. 7, 2019.
